The most beautiful vineyards around Cape Town

our personal favorites

Anyone visiting Cape Town can hardly avoid the region's spectacular wine estates - and that's a good thing. Between majestic mountains, ancient vines and modern tasting rooms, there are real places of pleasure waiting for you. We at Frankas Place have visited countless wineries - here are our top 5, which we regularly include in our Grape Escape Tours - including location, special features and tips from us.

Noble Hill – Latin Flair meets Simonsberg Views

📍 Paarl / Simonsberg Pass, approx. 50 minutes from Cape Town

This boutique winery is a real insider tip! Noble Hill produces certified organic wines with a South American twist - and this is also reflected in the authentic Mexican cuisine of the “Cosecha” restaurant. The view of the Simonsberg is spectacular, the tasting room modern and relaxed.

Why we love it:

  • Latin American food meets South African wine - be sure to order the guacamole!

  • Chilled picnic spots between old olive trees

  • Great stop for small groups and families

De Grendel – wine with a view of Table Mountain

📍 Durbanville Hills, only 20 minutes from the center of Cape Town

Why we love it:

  • Short drive from Cape Town - perfect for sundowners

  • Panoramic view from the wine tasting

  • Michelin-starred cuisine in the in-house restaurant

Fairview - goats, cheese, wine & joie de vivre

📍 Paarl, approx. 55 min. from Cape Town

Fairview is more than just a winery - it's a gourmet experience. Known for its iconic “Goat Tower” and its own cheese dairy, Fairview combines creative wines with homemade cheese, bread and charcuterie. The Tasting Room is large, lively and a foodie's paradise.

Why we love it:

  • Wine & cheese combo tasting

  • Homemade products in the Farmshop

  • Lively atmosphere - ideal for relaxed visits

Boschendal – time travel with a picnic & style

📍 Franschhoek, approx. 1 hour 10 minutes from Cape Town

Boschendal is one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa and has been developed into a lifestyle hotspot in recent years. Between historic gardens, farm-to-table cuisine, excellent picnic baskets and elegant wines, you can linger here for hours.

Why we love it:

  • Historic flair meets modern culinary concept

  • Spacious picnic areas under old trees

  • Sustainability & farming as part of the experience

Warwick – boutique winery with storytelling & style

📍 Stellenbosch, approx. 1 hour from Cape Town

Warwick Estate is charming, stylish and known for its strong red wines - especially the “Trilogy”. The service is warm, the story about the “First Lady” line is exciting and the picnic area in the garden is one of the most beautiful in Wineland. Ideal for a relaxed but elegant wine tasting.

Why we love it:

  • Beautiful garden with picnic & lake

  • Great story behind the wines

  • Ideal for romantic stops & intimate tastings
